Culture Night is of course a fantastic time to embrace your native or heritage language, whatever it may be. This video is the first I am releasing in the Irish language, but it certainly won’t be the last!
There’s a lot to take a look at in this video, staring with the Moon. A wonderful Half Moon will be visible around sunset on Culture Night, and it is the perfect half to see the Sea of Tranquility. You’ll see how to find it close to the beginning of the video, with a little help from a Lunar football player.
Almost every planet the naked eye can see is up on Culture Night this year, so we will take a look at each of them in turn, starting with Saturn and its rings, then Jupiter and the Great Red Spot. We need to move forward to morning time to catch Venus, and finally little Mercury right before sunrise.
There is only one planet we could see at other times of the year which isn’t visible on this date. No prizes for guessing that it’s the Red Planet, Mars!
Of course, what kind of show would it be if I didn’t round out the collection, by taking a quick look at Mars anyway, right at the end.
